Joshua Boileau Leads White Cross Online E-Commerce

The Certified International Trade Professional (CITP®|FIBP®) designation remains a benchmark of credibility for global commerce professionals. Joshua Boileau recently earned this elite certification, marking a milestone in his career in international trade management. Boileau, who serves as the E-Commerce Manager at White Cross Online, says the designation is about establishing trust in a world of shifting policies.
A foundation built on family values
Boileau says his interest in international trade began at a young age, observing the work ethic of his family. He explains that handling regulations, supply chains, and cultural differences requires the same dedication as any other professional field.
“I grew up in a household of blue-collar workers who instilled a sense of work excellence and dedication that inspired me to work in a career that amplified those skills. With international trade, I saw the connections with work ethic, dedication, and attention to detail.”
He believes these core values remain the glue that holds international operations together, allowing businesses to maintain client trust and ensure quality across borders.
Scale and resilience in global markets
Boileau worked at Shopify, where he experienced the vast scale of global trade firsthand. He recalls the moment when live orders came in from markets he had never physically visited, seeing the impact of a product team in Ottawa reach customers half a world away.

The 2022 invasion of Ukraine presented a different kind of challenge. When Shopify waived platform fees for Ukrainian merchants, Boileau helped set up online stores for businesses in crisis. He saw the rapid emergence of fashion, food, and wellness shops during the war and the pandemic.
“It was inspiring to see fashion, food, health and wellness, and retail shops pop up. A resilience through war and the pandemic.”
For anyone entering the field of international trade, Boileau says patience is key. He learned this lesson from James Dumont, the current leadership at White Cross, who told him to “learn how to crawl before you can run.”
Handling tariffs and regulatory shifts
Managing the impact of tariffs is one of the most difficult aspects of international trade, especially for small businesses. Boileau says the weight of these changes feels much more immense than it would in a large corporation. He focuses on creating international market entry analyses and marketing plans to help his employer adapt to new regulations.
His technical expertise, combined with a deep understanding of intercultural trends, helps companies pivot when global conditions change. This balance of hard skills and human insight allows businesses to remain competitive even when trade barriers shift unexpectedly.

Boileau completed the FITTskills program through Algonquin College, which he credits for deepening his intercultural understanding. He notes that the relationships built in international trade often dwarf the classic business etiquette found in other fields.
His favorite course was International Sales & Marketing, which inspired him to pursue a co-op placement in South Africa. There, he experienced culture shock and learned the intricacies of global marketing trends directly from the ground up.
Why the CITP matters now
In an era of complex global policies, the CITP designation provides a standard of expertise that partners rely upon. Boileau says having a credible voice backed by a world-recognized organization is essential when dealing with international brands and supply chains.
“There’s something to be said about credibility in a world that has shifted to creating policies and legislation backed by non-credibility. I want to have a credible voice… when dealing with international brands, brokers, reps, and supply chains.”
As E-Commerce Manager for an online pharmacy retailer, Boileau plans to use the CITP designation to expand his focus on international diversification. He sees the certification as a tool to drive sustainable growth in online pharmacy retail, helping the company handle new markets while maintaining ethical standards.
