On November 3, 2026, he competed against Republican Monica De La Cruz, who currently holds the seat.

After decades of performing on stage, Bobby Pulido retired from music to pursue a goal he had since he was young: dedicating himself to public service. The Tejano music singer explained that his decision to venture into politics responds to a personal desire he had put on hold when he started his music career.

Bobby Pulido thought about this a lot and wants to do something more before leaving this planet, saying “God gave me a gift to sing, but also to be a leader and be the voice for my people,” during an interview with Jessie Cervantes in 2025.

The singer of ‘Desvelado’ acknowledged that he could win or lose in the elections and, depending on the result, decide what to do with his artistic career. He commented, “I tell you, there are no guarantees, you run and you can lose, more because of how politics is in the United States. Polarization is very big, from zones to parties. This does not favor us, but I want to try.”

Bobby Pulido studied Political Science, and his original intention was not to become a singer, but to follow a path related to politics. For the artist, the possibility of representing his community also means building a legacy outside of the stage: “Leaving a legacy in music is nice, but leaving one by serving people is even better. My plan in life was to launch myself into politics, it was my desire since I was young, and music wooed me.”

The contest is part of the US midterm elections and takes place in a district in southern Texas that includes communities in the Rio Grande Valley and other localities on the way to the coastal area. Pulido recognized that he is not certain about what he will do after the election if he does not get the position. “If they decide that I am that person, then I will follow through and not look back. If they say no, I do not know what I will do. Maybe I will return to music, or not,” he said in a conversation with Jessie Cervantes.

Musical Career and Legacy

In addition to his career in Tejano music, Bobby Pulido has a special memory of Selena Quintanilla, whom he met when they were both young. The singer said that their families coincided on stages in Texas. In an interview with Gustavo Adolfo Infante for the program “El minuto que cambió mi destino,” Bobby Pulido recognized that the singer of ‘Amor prohibido’ was his platonic love and recalled that he even received a comment from A.B. Quintanilla about a possible interest from his sister.

Bobby Pulido also clarified that his success ‘Desvelado’ was not written for Selena nor composed by him, as had been circulated in some versions. The song was written by Jorge Avena. Bobby Pulido, whose full name is Jose Roberto Pulido Jr., was born on April 25, 1973, in Edinburg, Texas. He is a singer and composer of Tejano music, and the son of renowned singer Roberto Pulido.

His music career began to take shape in the mid-1990s. In 1995, he released his debut album, ‘Desvelado’, whose homonymous theme became one of his greatest hits and positioned him among the figures of Tejano music. Throughout his career, he released albums such as ‘Enséñame’, ‘Llegaste a Mi Vida’, and ‘El Cazador’. In 2022, he received the Latin Grammy for Best Tejano Music Album for ‘Para que baile mi pueblo’. After announcing his farewell tour, ‘Por la puerta grande’, he began to focus on his political aspirations.
