A Mansfield-based law firm has expanded its local footprint after acquiring one of the town’s oldest legal practices. Banner Jones Solicitors has merged with Harrop White, Vallance & Dawson, a firm established in 1879. The combination unites two practices focused on property law, wills, family law, and commercial disputes.

The new entity will operate from Banner Jones’ larger office on St Peter’s Way and Albert Street beginning in November. While Harrop White’s staff will initially remain at their current location, the transition will consolidate operations under one roof. The merger introduces additional services for clients, including corporate law, care proceedings, and notarial services.

Harrop White’s clients will continue working with their existing lawyers but will now benefit from Banner Jones’ expanded expertise and technological resources. Charles Dawson, senior partner at Harrop White, emphasized that the move ensures continuity for clients while bringing in new capabilities.

This merger follows Banner Jones’ earlier regional expansion, including its 2013 consolidation with Bilton Hammond. The firm is also hiring locally to support its growth and remains a sponsor of Mansfield Town Football Club. Matthew Maiden, executive director of Banner Jones’ Mansfield office, described the partnership as a logical next step, citing shared values and complementary legal strengths.

Unlike many regional consolidations that risk disrupting client relationships, both firms have prioritized maintaining existing connections. Dawson stressed the importance of personal service, while Maiden noted that the merger delivers the advantages of a larger firm without compromising the qualities that made Harrop White unique. The firms’ commitment to preserving client relationships sets this deal apart.

The success of such mergers often depends on cultural compatibility—a factor both firms claim to share.

Banner Jones’ growth in Mansfield supports its broader strategy across the East Midlands and South Yorkshire.
