Banksharon Nwaneri received his Certified International Trade Professional (CITP®|FIBP®) designation in June 2025. The credential added a globally recognized mark to a career focused on linking businesses with international opportunities.

A career shaped by partnerships and problem-solving

Nwaneri’s work centers on building connections that eliminate obstacles for U.S. companies expanding overseas. He assists businesses in entering new markets, finalizing contracts, and understanding trade regulations. These efforts go beyond transactions to build stronger economic relationships.

“I enjoy supporting strategic partnerships, connecting people and businesses with opportunities, and seeing them grow from the point where I met them—despite barriers and obstacles,” he said.

His approach isn’t limited to corporate success. Nwaneri prioritizes inclusive economic growth, especially in emerging markets, where he ensures both U.S. and local stakeholders gain from trade relationships.

From banking to diplomacy: a path of diverse expertise

Before his role at the U.S. Embassy, Nwaneri spent over a decade in commercial banking, overseeing a $500 million portfolio of liability products and $200 million in risk assets for micro, small, and medium enterprises. There, he consistently surpassed sales targets by cultivating client relationships and crafting financial solutions under pressure.

“Each achievement felt deeply fulfilling precisely because it was earned through high performance under pressure,” he stated.

His career later moved into international education and trade. At the British Council, he led business development, including a project to reverse declining market share for the IELTS program. By designing incentives for test centers and corporate partners, he boosted uptake through business-to-business channels. The success stemmed from a strategy rooted in partnership and insight.

“It was satisfying to take a project from abstract idea to measurable success,” he said. “Seeing the market respond so positively validated the importance of a strategy rooted in partnership and insight.”

The CITP®|FIBP® designation formalized years of hands-on experience in trade compliance, logistics, and regulatory frameworks. For Nwaneri, the certification represents not just knowledge but the ability to apply it in real-world situations.

This practical mindset guides his current work, where he identifies opportunities for American companies abroad. He advises professionals to avoid entering new markets without researching local consumer behavior, competition, and trade laws.

“A lack of preparation can lead to costly delays or lost opportunities,” he said.

Trade depends on relationships, not just transactions. When a U.S. company enters a new market, errors in labeling, tariffs, or contracts can disrupt years of planning. Nwaneri’s work helps prevent these mistakes, turning potential setbacks into successful expansions.
